Outline
This seminar is tailored to encourage students to read widely and consider deeply about the concepts of culture and communication and how they interact in translation. The students are expected to translate a portion of either the English language or the Japanese language text. Their graduation paper will be drawn from their translation experience.

到達目標
Aim/goal
Finding the appropriate text for translation, exploring translation theories, completing the translation and pinpointing translation difficulties. Each class the students are expected to share their experience in a small group. We will have individual progress report presentations in the middle and at the end of the semester. The students are expected to complete their translation assignments and make a presentation of the translation difficulties they encountered by the end of the semester.

第4回 Finalising the choice of translation material 
第5回 Pinpointing translation difficulties: inroducting most common categories used in translation research. 
第6回 Guidance on writing translation analysis 
第7回 Sharing each other's progress by reading each other's translations;
Assesing each other's translation.

What Students
are expected
to do
outside of the class
Students should translate a portion of text. The genre of the text, the amount of the text for translation will be discussed in class. Upon drawing a working schedule the students should prepare for the progress reports.

Evaluation
Evaluation will be based on students' class participation, a translation submitted at the end of the semester and their ability to meet their goals in the schedule

Feedback methods on assignments
Written assignments will receive written comments. Oral assignments will receive oral comments in class.

Prerequisites
This year, our university has invited the renowned children's literature translator, Riitta Oittinen. She will be participating in our seminar, offering valuable advice on translation and academic writing.
