授業概要 Course Outline
This class will be conducted in English. The focus will be on Japanese-English translation. However, that doesn't mean we will be doing only English-Japanese translation. To understand the Japanese-English translation better, we will do English-Japanese translation as well. Each class an attempt is made to identify potential sources of translation difficulties related to the linguistic area under discussion and possible strategies to resolve these difficulties.

到達目標 Aim/goal
Students will work individually and in groups. Group work requires translating in a group, orally or in writing, and presenting the results of the joint or individual work. Individual translation will be given in the form of mid-term and end-of-the term tests. Students are expected to engage reflectively, to be able to produce translations and talk about the process of translation. The goal of this class is to develop the translator's skillset to solve the translation problems, and to broaden the understanding of translation as a process and a product.
