|
|
This course provides an introduction to the study of translation, through practice and theory. We will begin by discussing the purposes, kinds, and rewards of translation. We will work on a variety of translation projects, including folk and children's tales, the media, advertising, speeches, songs, and literature. Students will share their translations with other class members and discuss and revise their work with group assistance. We will discuss the principles of good translation.

|
|
This course will introduce students to the art of translation through practice in translating from a variety of genres, ranging from children's stories to advertisements, songs, and adult literature. It will also introduce some of the basic principles of translation theory. While developing our skills in translation, we also seek to deepen our appreciation of literature and language.

学習活動 【授業前】 What Students are expected to do before class
|
|
Prepare translation assignments and readings. Preparation time for readings and translations generally requires about 60 to 90 minutes per class.

|
|
Listen to lectures and take notes. Students will write their translations on the board for comparison with other students' translations, and comment on each other's translations.

|
Review class notes, revise translations, work on new translation assignment.

|
評価方法 Evaluation
|
|
Evaluation will be based on students' translation assignments and class participation, including writing their translation assignments on the board in class and commenting on their own and other members' translations.

This course continues from the spring semester course 翻訳基礎演習1-a. Students are requested to register for 翻訳基礎演習1-a as well within the same academic year.
